Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is going to be another brutally difficult Soulslike action RPG by the makers of Nioh and Nioh 2, but even though it will share those core similarities, it’s clear that it’s still going to be its own kind of experience. Developer Team Ninja has spoken in the past about how the game will be much larger and allow for more exploration, and more recently, speaking with PLAY magazine for its December 2022 issue (via Sirus Gaming), game director Fumihiko Yasuda and producer Masaaki Yamagiwa provided more details on how combat will be different as well.

While the Nioh games were set in Japan and saw you stepping into the shoes of samurai, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s Chinese setting and focus on martial arts allows for more dynamic movement and a faster pace to combat encounters. This entails the ability to jump at any time, and not having to worry about a stamina meter (and thus being able to switch between defensive and offensive stances on the fly).

“Chinese martial arts are more free-flowing and elegant, which creates a very different tone for combat,” said Yasuda.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is set to launch on March 3, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
