After playing a while and hunting a few Kemonos in WILD HEARTS, your inventory will be filled with items that you may or may not need for future upgrades. Some items are extremely rare but are nonetheless important when it comes to crafting powerful gear. Resources like the Crustaceous Moss, Pointed Scale and Serpent Slough will require some hunting on your part before you come across any. This guide goes over some of the more important items in the game, as well as how to farm in the long run.
How to farm items in WILD HEARTS
Here are the following methods you can use to farm items in WILD HEARTS:
- Rewards – You earn items as rewards from completing quests.
- Petting – Instead of slaughtering innocent Kemono, you can also pet them for items. Simply approach a small creature while crouched and unnoticed. Press the Left Trigger to pet them on their neck. After a while the creature will run away while leaving behind a small item for you.
- Slaying Kemono – Finally, the most reliable way of gathering items is by killing Kemono.
Important Early Game Items in WILD HEARTS
Pointed Scale
Kill a Nightshade Monitor in the Akikure Canyon available in Chapter 2. Search the Six Points Lagoon in the west and the Buddha cave in the northeast of the region. Petting the creature won’t do, as it gives a Lizard Bloom instead of a Pointed Scale. You’ll have to kill it for the specific item.
Small Scale
Head to Spirit Isle or the Old Blossom Trail and kill a Sparkshower Monitor or a Springwatch Monitor. Petting them also won’t yield the required items, so you’ll have to kill them as well. Luckily, for you, they are located in their native region, so they aren’t hard to find.
Crustaceous Moss
Go to Natsukodachi Isle (also called Spirit Isle) and either pet or kill a Grassghoul Decapod. You can simply pet the Kemono for the items, so if you’re not geared up for the fight, simply avoid the mayhem. You can find them in front of the first camp on the Spirit Isle within Shipwreck Inlet or along the coast on Ironside Beach.
Serpent Beard and Serpent Slough
The Serpent Slough is an important crafting material. It’s used for creating armor, and you’ll need a bunch of it as you progress through the game. To get your hands on the item, kill the Whipthrash Serpent, which can be found on Natsukodachi Isle.
Petting the Kemonos will earn you a different item (Serpent Beard), which you can use instead of Serpent Slough. They both serve the same function. If you’re having trouble finding the Kemono, head to the Coral Salt Swamp in the island’s center. You can also spot a few in the north, near the Dragon Altar.
Slater Exoskeleton
In order to find the Slater Exoskeleton, head over to Akikure Canyon and pet a Deadleaf Slater. You can find them roaming throughout the canyon. The Kemonos are quite docile, so there isn’t any risk of imminent attacks.
Snapspine Cotton
Go to Natsukodachi Isle and head over towards the east side of Spirit Isle. You’ll see Snapspine Wisps roaming about. Kill them, and they’ll drop the Snapspine Cotton. Petting the creatures will earn you Obsidian Snapspine Needles, which is a different resource.
If you’re having trouble spotting the creatures, visit the high mountains between the Caldera Dolmen Dragon Pits and Lava Cavern, and you’ll surely find a few roaming there.
Wild Dog Pampas
Once again, head over to Akikure Canyon and travel to the Dawn Camp, located in the southwest area of the region. You’ll spot a few Noblegrass Hounds. Simply pet them to receive the Dog Pampas.
