Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 received several new details at the Tekken World Tour Global Finals 2022, including a new trailer showcasing Nina’s return. However, one of the most interesting announcements is that Arika of Street Fighter EX and Fighting EX Layer fame will help with the development.

According to its press release, Arika is contracted to handle “Any update of the Software including improvements, bug fixes, and usability improvements for online matches.” Bandai Namco is still in charge of game balance, though. In addition, the developer is providing “advice on our developed online battle algorithms and game response, as well as undertake production work to improve the user experience.”

The last bit is especially promising since Tekken 8 could support rollback netcode. Though Fighting EX Layer launched in 2018 for PS4 with delay-based netcode, a later update would add it to the platform and PC. Of course, the developer is providing “advice” in this regard, so the implementation in Tekken 8 could end up completely different.

Time will tell, so stay tuned for more updates. Tekken 8 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out details on mechanics like the Heat System here. You can also learn more about the new Special Control Style here.
