Motive Studios’ Star Wars: Squadrons received its first trailer yesterday with in-engine footage explaining the game’s setup and core themes. Those starting for gameplay won’t have to wait long though – EA confirmed in a press release that it would debut at EA Play Live 2020 on June 18th. Creative director Ian Frazier said the game was created for “every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter.”

Along with ship customization, there are cosmetics to be unlocked. EA confirmed that the latter would only be earned through gameplay with no microtransactions present. Cosmetics can be used to modify one’s cockpit and ship. The pilot’s look can also be customized to one’s liking

In terms of customization options, there will be new weapons, hulls, engines and shields to earn by ranking up. The story, which takes place after the destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi, will see players alternating between the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron and the Empire’s Titan Squadron. Along with a “diverse cast of original characters”, there will be cameos from “familiar faces in the Star Wars galaxy.”

Star Wars: Squadrons is out on October 2nd and costs $40. It will be available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC with VR support enabled. Check out the VR and non-VR requirements for PC here.
