Sony has been making big pushes in the VR space for several years, and it’s set to take another step in that direction with the imminent launch of PlayStation VR2. Previous reports had suggested that the company has big expectations for the next-gen virtual reality headset and was forecasting 2 million shipments by the end of March, but it seems the situation has changed, with the company allegedly having lowered its forecasts.
That’s as per a report published by Bloomberg, which says that Sony has told production partners to told fewer orders than expected. The Japanese company has allegedly slashed its forecasts for the PS VR2, and is now said to be expecting to ship 1 million units by the end of the current quarter, and a total of 1.5 million units between this March and April 2024 (though the latter figure isn’t completely set in stone).
The reason for this seems to be disappointing pre-order numbers, which, in turn may have been impacted by the headset’s price of $549.99, which is higher than the PS5 itself. The PS VR2’s less-than-stellar launch lineup probably hasn’t helped matters either.
