Endnight Games’ Sons of the Forest has seen several delays and will finally release on February 23rd on PC. However, the developer has announced a change – the survival horror sandbox is now launching into early access on Steam.

Due to growing into the “biggest, most complex game we have ever made,” it wants to add more items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and so on. Instead of another delay, Endnight is involving the community with development. The Forest also went through Steam Early Access before fully launching in 2014, which the developer attributes to “the awesome community and the suggestions, feedback, and bug reports the players shared with us.”

Overall, it’s not a bad change, though time will tell how long early access is. Sons of the Forest is currently only releasing for PC and introduces several new mechanics like AI Companions, revamped building, dynamic seasons, and so on. It also features a brand new story set on an island four times larger than the previous game’s. Check out our feature here, and stay tuned for further details.
