Capcom has been on fire with its Resident Evil games in recent years, and at least half of the success the series is enjoying comes from the remakes released for Resident Evil 2 and 3. Unsurprisingly, for quite some time now, rumours have been strongly suggesting that Resident Evil 4 remake is also in the works. For a game as beloved as the 2005 original, it goes without saying that everyone’s going to have opinions on what its remake should be- which, interestingly, includes the original game’s director as well.

Shinji Mikami, currently the boss at Tango Gameworks and busy with the upcoming Ghostwire: Tokyo, built his legacy at Capcom, where he created the Resident Evil franchise (among others), directing the first game, its remake, and then Resident Evil 4. And speaking recently with VG247, when asked about the rumoured remake, Mikami talked about how he only had three weeks to write the original’s story, and that he wishes to see improvements on that front in the sequel.

“It would be great if Capcom could do a great job and make the story better, and put out a good product,” Mikami said. Asked about what his general thoughts on a remake for the game were, he said, “fans will most likely want it, and so that’s a good thing.” Back in 2020, he made similar comments- read more on that through here.

As for when Resident Evil 4’s remake will be officially revealed, that remains to be seen. In early 2021, leaks claimed that the remake’s development had been rebooted, with Capcom moving the project in-house following changes in its direction. Read more on that through here.

Resident Evil 4 fans have had plenty else to keep them busy of late though, with Resident Evil 4 VR having launched for Meta Quest 2 last year. The game continues to receive updates, and will also receive a Mercenaries mode this year.
