Monster Hunter Rise Sales Exceeded Expectations – Capcom

Thanks primarily to "strong performance in Japan and Asia."

There was never any doubt that Monster Hunter Rise would enjoy strong sales – the combination of being a Monster Hunter game and being a major Switch exclusive pretty much guaranteed that – and sure enough, the game has already shipped over 6 million units worldwide. As it turns out, that’s more than what Capcom was anticipating for it.

During Capcom’s recent quarterly investors Q&A, when asked about the sales of Monster Hunter Rise, the company said it had exceeded their internal expectations. They say that’s primarily thanks to strong sales in Japan and Asia. Capcom says that there’s still room for growth where sales in the US and Europe are concerned, but they expect that to improve when the game launches for PC next year.

“The title exceeded our internal expectations for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021 primarily due to a strong performance in Japan and Asia,” they said. “We believe there is still plenty of potential for additional growth in the US and European markets and will continue to focus on growing sales globally with the launch of the PC version.”

Considering the track record of Monster Hunter as a series, this shouldn’t be very surprising. Monster Hunter World has sold over 17 million units at this point, while the series’ collective sales stand at over 72 million.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is also coming to PC and Switch in July. Meanwhile, a Monster Hunter Digital Event has been confirmed for May 26, where Capcom will share details on Stories 2 and update 3.0 of Rise.
