Monster Hunter Rise

The unveiling of new techniques for each weapon tree in Monster Hunter Rise continues, this time with Capcom highlighting the Great Sword and Switch Axe. The former has always been known for its overwhelming power at the cost of speed while the latter challenges players to shift between its two attacking modes. Check out the trailers below.

What’s new this time around is that the Great Sword can use “Power Sheathe.” This uses the Wirebug to dash forward and execute a quick sheathe, which can transition into a tackle and charged slash. “Hunting Edge” allows for ascending high and delivering a mighty blow to a monster from above.

As for the Switch Axe, it still offers Axe Form for better movement and Sword Form for powered slashes. However, this time, Phial effects can now be used in Axe Form, allowing one to take advantage of the additional damage while remaining mobile. “Invincible Gambit” is a new move that will make the player immune to flinching and knockback as they attack.

Monster Hunter Rise is out on March 26th 2021 for Nintendo Switch. A free demo is out this January for a limited time.
