Like A Dragon: Ishin! Guide – The Best Armor And How You Can Obtain Them

Defense is the best offense, and the same goes for Like a Dragon: Ishin!. For most of the early game, anything you pick up during encounters is a viable choice. However, as you approach the mid-late game, there are a few gears that are capable of carrying you through the rest of the story.

Each piece of armor supports a specific playstyle, so your setup might not match our list, and that’s ok. Everyone has a unique playstyle, and during testing, we found these gears best supported ours. You can either use this for reference, or build an exact replica, it’s up to you. Let’s begin!

Best Armor in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Best Head Armor

Dragon Emblem 

Defense (Initia/Max) – 11/22

Crafting Requirements – 1x Iron Hachigane, 15x Vermillion Fabric, 1x Eye of the Dragon, 10x Fine Silk Fabric

Special Effects – When at low health, activate passive Head Gauge regeneration, and reduces heat gauge consumption (all the time)

Not only does the Dragon Emblem have superior defense stats, but its reduced heat gauge consumption allows you to execute special attacks faster than usual. The gauge gain boost received at low health, also makes it the perfect gear for high-risk scenarios when you’re up against powerful enemies that require several powerful attacks to take down.

Best Body Armor

Purgatory 

Defense (Initia/Max) – 15/35

Crafting Requirements – 1x Blade-Proof Breastplate, 10x Vermillion Cloth, 5x Beautiful Silk Fabric, 1x Glossy Doll

Special Effects – Out of all the body armors in the game, the Purgatory has the highest defense stats. It even reflects damage back to the enemies.

The Purgatory is the best armor you can get in the game, in terms of raw defensive stats. However, some players prefer the Loincloth (90% attack boost), the Brawler’s Binding (Base defense + 8% defense), or the Celestial Garb (5% Damage Reflection and 5% Elemental Resistance). The Purgatory is an all purpose armor that’s suitable for most scenarios. But if you’re looking for something more specific, you can try a different gear.

Best Gauntlets

Solid Team 

Defense (Initia/Max) – 12/30

Crafting Requirements – 1x Steel Gauntlet, 10x Vermillion Cloth, 1x Ancient Amulet, 5x Beautiful Silk Fabric

Special Effects – Highest defense of all gauntlets

The Solid Team is also an all-purpose gauntlet that is suitable for almost all scenarios. It boasts the highest defensive stats among all gauntlets and is the go-to option for most players. However, if you’re looking for something extra, you can try out the Hidden Blade Gauntlets (5% Damage Reflection) or the Iron Gauntlets (can guard against bladed weapons).
