Farming XP makes you stronger, so it’s completely natural to look for the most efficient way to do so in any game, and Like a Dragon: Ishin! is no exception. The game comes with a lot of activities, and figuring out the most optimal way to progress your character isn’t easy. However, this guide has listed the best ways you can maximize your XP gain and unlock skills faster. So without further ado, let’s begin!

How to Maximize XP gain during Combat in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Following the Grading System

You’ll receive a rating based on your overall performance during combat. This is called the grading system, and it’s not as simple as it seems. For instance, you can get the lowest grade even if you remain unscathed throughout the entire fight. There is more to combat than simply smashing buttons. It’s determined by three factors, which are as follows:

Attack – The attack metric is determined by the number of combo chains you execute during a fight. Two 20-hit combos are better than a single 40-hit combo. The more combo strings you can execute the higher your grade will be at the end of the fight.

Defense – Defense is determined by the number of successful parries and dodges you execute during a fight. You can easily get an A-rating if you manage to dodge or parry six times in a row. It doesn’t matter if you received damage during the battle. As long as you execute 6 dodged/parries you’ll get a higher rating.

Technique – Technique is determined by the number of heat actions (skill attacks using the heat gauge) you execute during battle. Doing 2 gets you a B score, while getting 3 gets you an A. It’s particularly difficult to get a high score in thai category since you simply don’t fill up the heat gauge fast enough during the early game. You should also note that duplicate heat actions don’t count. You’ll have to perform different heat actions if you want a better score.

Improve your fighting skills, and you’ll start earning experience points in no time.

Doing Side Quests

Doing side quests grants XP. Also, you’ll be fighting several enemies during these missions, which means you’ll be earning even more experience. Simply remember the grading system when engaging in combat.

Battle Dungeons

Finally, the last way you can earn experience is by participating in a Battle Dungeon. You’ll become acquainted with the battle dungeon during Chapter 5. There are several missions available here, and you’re free to choose one for yourself. The missions get tougher as you progress through them, so make sure you have some decent gear before embarking on a quest. Once the mission is completed, you’ll receive a bunch of experience, money, and rare items.

How to Unlock Skills faster in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

When you level up, you’ll receive a soul orb. There are two categories of soul orbs in the game. They are:

Training Orb – The training orb can be used to unlock any skill and ability across all fighting schools. You get one training orb when your character levels up.

Style Orb – The style orb is different. You’ll receive one when a specific fighting style gains a level. Moreover, you can only use this orb to unlock skills and abilities for that fighting style.

If you want to unlock skills faster, do some research beforehand and pick a fighting style you’re most comfortable with. Now, instead of experimenting with different schools, spend all your training orbs in the school of your choice. This way, you can unlock skills way faster for one specific fighting style.
