Guerrilla Games have been rather silent about their upcoming role playing game, Horizon: Zero Dawn. Although we received a a bit of information last August, the development team are pretty tight lipped about revealing more details about their next big game.

The upcoming PS4 exclusive will be a purely single player experience and it won’t have a multiplayer component. In a recent interview with IGN Latino America, Mark Norris, executive producer of Horizon Zero Dawn explained why this is the case.

“There are questions as to why a multiplayer will not do. The reality is that we are putting together a new IP. We are making a new franchise for the first time in 10 years and what we really want to do is improve the experience for the player. When you get to face these machines as Eloy, with this great character, who is the real star of the story and everything that happens, have this connection with her. But what happens when you take the elements of multiplayer? You play as a supporting character? How does that work?,” he stated.

He also drew comparisons with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and how CD Projekt RED focused only on the single player portion. Despite lacking a multiplayer component, The Witcher 3 proved to be one of 2015’s best game and won our award for Game of the Year 2015 award.

“It is an action RPG with a single player experience. I think we’re similar in that way, we want this to be the story of Eloy. Although a multiplayer mode is great and maybe we can think of something for the future, but we want Horizon Zero Dawn’s story to be on Eloy and it’s going to be fantastic when you play with it.”

Guerrilla Games are mostly known to develop first person shooter games. Furthermore the stories told in the Killzone series have been nothing but bland. One of the things that made The Witcher 3 such an amazing experience was its plot. There was a reason to everything. Every main mission, side quest and monster mission had a deeply inter-woven narrative which tied up with the main plot line.

Although Guerrilla Games have hired top rated writers in the past, it’s best to keep expectations low in case of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s story.
