Hogwarts Legacy has sparked widespread controversy due to its association with controversial Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who has come under fire for her transphobic stance, but the game has enjoyed impressive success right off the bat following its release.
While WB Games has yet to make any official announcements regarding its launch sales, the open world action RPG has got off to a solid start on Steam. As per SteamDB, Hogwarts Legacy has seen a peak concurrent users count of 879,308, which is the second-highest ever for a single player-only game on Steam. That record is currently held by Cyberpunk 2077.
As pointed out by Benji-Sales on Twitter, Hogwarts Legacy’s peak concurrent users count on Steam is also the third-highest ever on the platform for a primarily single player game, the fifth-highest ever for a paid game, and the eighth-highest ever for any genre game.
Unsurprisingly, Hogwarts Legacy’s strong start has also been reflected in its initial sales. The game debuted on top of the weekly UK retail charts, exceeding Elden Ring’s launch sales in the region by 80%.
In our review of Hogwarts Legacy, we awarded it a score of 8/10, saying, “Everyone will have to make their own choice on whether or not to engage with Hogwarts Legacy, but if you do choose to play it, you’ll find it to be a well-made and densely packed open world action RPG that adapts the Wizarding World universe in excellent ways.” Read the full review through here.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It launches for PS4 and Xbox One on April 4, and for the Nintendo Switch on July 25.
