Hogwarts Legacy has different types of spells you can learn and master. You can unlock most of them through the story and by completing Assignment Quests. However, altering Spells can only be learned from side quests. This guide contains a list of all the spells in the game and where you can find them, including the Unforgivable curse spells. Let’s begin.
Essential Spells

| Stupefy | Stuns enemies, makes them take more damage from other spells (indicated by gold numbers), and breaks shield charms (except hard difficulty) | Automatically unlocks in the story during the main quest – The Path to Hogwarts. |
| Ancient Magic Throw | Conjures and throws special environmental objects at the targeted enemy. This is particularly useful for breaking shielded charms. | Automatically unlocks in the story during the main quest – The Path to Hogsmeade. |
| Ancient Magic | Lets you cast devastating Ancient Magic Attacks whenever one of your Ancient Magic Meters is full. | Automatically unlocks in the story during the main quest – The Path to Hogsmeade. |
| Alohomora | Let’s open several locked rooms and containers throughout the game, but the success depends on your prowess. | Automatically unlocks in the story during the main quest – The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament. |
| Petrificus Totalus | Binds enemies. Usually powerful enough to bind most foes. Tougher enemies are difficult to bind and will quickly break free. | Automatically unlocks in the story during the main quest – Secrets of the Restricted Section. |
Force Spells

| Accio | Summons numerous enemies and objects to close range. Some heavy objects and magical items need sustained effort to pull close. | Depulso | Pushes away enemies and objects with significant force. Although the spell doesn’t deal any direct damage to anything it repels, enemies/objects can be crushed into each other for devastating results. | Finish the Assignment – Professor Sharp’s Assignment 1. |
| Descendo | Enemies and objects are fiercely slammed into the ground and suffer massive impact damage. The damage dealt to airborne enemies is even higher. However, it doesn’t deal any direct damage. | Finish the Assignment – Professor Onai’s Assignment. |
| Flipendo | Flips enemies and objects backwards and upwards. The spell has little to no combat applications, and is mainly used for solving puzzles and exploiting enemy weaknesses. | Finish the Assignment – Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2. |
Control Spells

Damage Spells

| Bombarda | Deals considerable damage to enemies and also creates an explosion upon contact. The explosion can destroy heavy objects and hit nearby enemies. | Finish the Assignment – Professor Howin’s Assignment. |
| Incendio | It’s a short range spell that deals significant damage. It even lights specific objects on fire. Enemies that have fire-based attacks continue to take damage over a few seconds. Transfiguration Spells

Unforgivable Curses

| Imperio | You can temporarily force enemies to fight for you (like your companion). During the period they are under your control, they receive less damage from other enemies, and in doing so, they prolong their allegiance to you. They also take extra damage from your spells. | 1.
