Hogwarts Legacy is home to many secrets. Finding them and solving them is exciting, to say the least. Puzzles range from simple to complicated, with door puzzles lying on the more challenging side of things. They may appear confusing to some individuals, even after the first few attempts.
Some players attempt to brute force all 12 puzzles, trying every possible combination until they succeed, but it takes the fun out of everything. In this guide, you’ll learn the correct way to solve the door puzzles. Also, the rewards are random, so it’s better not to have any specific expectations. With that out of the way, let’s begin.
How to solve the the Hogwarts Legacy Door Puzzles
You should know that the key to solving the door puzzles is simple math. There will be two equations etched on the door, each with a number in the middle, followed by three outer circles connected by a triangle. The central number is the sum of all the outer numbers. The first number is already revealed. You can identify the second number from the symbol. Now subtract their sum from the middle value. The solution should be within 0-9.
Identify the symbol corresponding to the new number and toggle the dials until you have those symbols in sight. The left dial is for the first equation, while the right dial is for the bottom equation.
You can find the note that explains all the animal numbers at the first puzzle door’s location. In case you’ve missed it, here is the list:
0 – Furry Creature with eyebrows
1 – Unicorn
2 – Tentacle Goat
3 – Three-headed Snake
4 – Weird Owl
5 – Spider with a Face
6 – Lizard
7 – One-eyed Squid
8 – Spider
9 – Hydra
It’s better if you take the time to solve the puzzles yourself. They are not that difficult once you know the secret, which you now do. However, if you’re in a hurry to complete the campaign, you’ll find all the solutions to the door puzzles listed below.
Door Puzzle #1: Central Hall Rafters
Located in the Library Annex area. Travel to the Divination Classroom Floo Flame, turn around and enter the rafter above the Central Hall. Keep going forward along the walkway and turn right. You’ll come across a door with a list of all the animal symbols. To solve the puzzle, rotate the left dial towards the Weird Owl and the right dial towards the Three-headed Snake.
Door Puzzle #2 & #3: Arithmancy Classroom
Once you’ve solved and entered the first door puzzle in the Library Annex area, you’ll notice two more doors. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Wired Owl and the right dial towards the Spider with a Face.
For the second door (to the right), rotate the left dial towards the Lizard and the right dial towards the Unicorn.
Door Puzzle #4: Central Hall
Once again, in the Annex Region, head over to the Potions Classroom Floo Flame and turn around and you’ll notice a puzzle door a few steps away. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Spider and the right dial towards the Three-headed Snake.
Door Puzzle #5: Long Gallery
Like the previous puzzle, enter the Potions Classroom Floo Flame, head left down the stairs. Keep going until you come across a locked level one door. Open the door and travel down the Long Gallery until you have a wide open space with a puzzle door to your left. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Tentacle Goat and the right dial towards the Unicorn.
Door Puzzle #6: Charms Classroom
Puzzle no. 6 is located in the Astronomy Wing area. Fast travel to the Charms Classroom Floo Flame to get there. Once you’re there, turn around, and you should see a passage just around the corner. Go around the corner to the left and you’ll find the next puzzle door. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Tentacle Goat and the right dial towards the One-eyed squid.
Door Puzzle #7: Ravenclaw Tower
Puzzle no. 7 can be found in the Grand Staircase region. Fast travel to the Ravenclaw Tower Floo Flame, and proceed to run down the corridor. Keep looking towards your right and you’ll notice the next puzzle door. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Wired Owl and the right dial towards the Spider with a Face.
Door Puzzle #8: Grand Staircase
Fast travel to Grand Staircase Tower Floo Flame. Once you’re there, head down the stairs until you come across a set of doors. It’s hard to miss since the doors are located on the outer wall of the staircase. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Lizard and the right dial towards the One-eyed Squid.
Door Puzzle #9: Near the Hourglasses
Puzzle no.9 is also located in the Grand Staircase area. After you fast travel using the Grand Staircase Floo Flame, head up the stairs, take a right, and then double back up the next set of stairs. Once you reach the end, you’ll find the doors on the left. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Furry Creatures with Eyebrows and the right dial towards the Spider with a Face.
Door Puzzle #10: Faculty Tower
This puzzle door has additional requirements. In order to access it in the South Wing area, you’ll need The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament quest. Fast travel to the Faculty Tower Floo Flame. You’ll have to unlock the Faculty Tower during the quest. When you’re done, head inside, and you’ll find the door on the next floor up from the entrance. You may also need to distract the prefect in order to get to this one. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Furry Creatures with Eyebrows and the right dial towards the Hydra.
Door Puzzle #11: The Great Hall
Located in the Great Hall area. To reach this door, travel to the Great Hall Floo Flame and run towards the left. Go around the pillar and toward the end of the corridor. Keep going until you come across the puzzle door. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Spider and the right dial towards the Three-headed Snake.
Door Puzzle #12: North Hall
The final puzzle door is located in the Astronomy Wing. Fast travel to the Transfiguration Classroom Floo Flame. Use the doors toward the back to enter the North Hall. Now head up the stairs until you reach the top floor. You’ll find a level one locked door. Open it and proceed down the corridor until you reach a door puzzle on the left. To solve the first door, rotate the left dial towards the Lizard and the right dial towards the Three-headed Snake.
