Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy launched worldwide last week and, to no one’s surprise, has got off to a flying start where its sales are concerned, having seen impressive initial sales in the UK and Europe while also breaking concurrent player count records on Steam. Famitsu has released its latest weekly data for Japanese software and hardware sales, and the open world action RPG has got off to a solid start in Japan as well. It has debuted on top of the charts, selling over 67,000 physical copies upon release.

It’s the only new release in this week’s top 10, and other than Gran Turismo 7 at No. 9, it’s also the only non-Switch game in the charts. A number of major first party Nintendo releases, most of which have become permanent fixtures in these charts, take spots in the top 10, including the likes of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports (which has now crossed 1 million units sold in Japan), and more.

Meanwhile, on the hardware front, the PS5 is continuing to enjoy strong sales in Japan, as it has done for a number of weeks running. It was the best-selling console in the region the previous week, and so it is in this week’s charts as well, having sold over 93,000 units, as compared to over 55,000 units sold for the Nintendo Switch.
