Hack-and-slash games have a rhythm to them. If you’ve ever played a action, you might have noticed yourself slipping into a silent attacking rhythm—a pattern in which you executed all of your combos. Hi-Fi Rush takes that sensation to the next level.
Executing attacks in rhythm is oddly satisfying, and the game manages to deliver a greatly fulfilling experience. In addition to that, there are a lot of incentives to achieve an S-Rank in fights, and in this guide, you’ll learn everything there is to do to achieve such a score consistently.
How to improve your basics combat skills in Hi-Fi Rush?
In order to score straight S-ranks in every battle, you’ll have to understand the parameters that affect a battle’s outcome.
Score – Score measures the number of combos you’re executing during combat and total damage being done to the target(s). You’ll be assigned a lower score if you only stick to 2-3 attacks per combat. Use different combo strings alongside aerial attacks to get a higher score. Every battle has a different score requirement for S-ranks, and if you want to reach it consistently you’d have to be innovative with your approaches.
Just Timing/Beat – This measures how in-sync you are with the music being played. Everything from dashes, moves, attacks, and jumps can be executed on the beat. In order to get a higher score you’ll need to be more efficient and accurate with your actions. In order to get an S-rank, you’ll have to maintain a 85% accuracy throughout the entire battle.
Time – Time is a simple factor. The faster you complete a battle, the higher your score will be. However, completing a battle quickly doesn’t always guarantee a higher score. You’ll have to find the most optimal way to finish off your enemies. Use different combs, and also keep an eye on the clock. Be efficient with your moves and you should be fine.
Tips to get an S-Rank in Hi-Fi Rush
Now that you’ve learned the fundamentals, it’s time to delve deeper and discover specific strategies for achieving S-Rank.
Adjusting the Difficulty – Every difficulty has several advantages and disadvantages. For example, you can defeat enemies on the easy difficulty with a few hits. However, it also takes away any combo opportunities. Since enemies die quickly, you cannot combo them for long, and end up scoring low on that metric.
On the other hand, higher difficulty enemies are tanky and require high-combo attacks to be taken down efficiently. Start with a lower difficulty, and increase it later once you have a better grasp on your movement abilities.
Bonuses – A diverse move set will earn several bonuses that’ll help you boost your score post battle. You can earn bonus points by triggering special moves such as grappling enemies, mid-air attacks will net you a higher score. You can also use partners to execute chain Jam Combos that open up enemies for an overkill bonus (if it hits last). There is a lot you can do, so keep practicing until you develop your unique style.
Maintain the Combo Meter – The Rhythm Meter measures your performance during every chorus/battle. Repeating combos results in a penalty and reduces your overall score. For instance, you only get 70% of the original score if you repeat moves. If you want an S-rank you’ll have to learn how to move with the beat and keep up your combo meter while you’re at it. Sometimes the enemies move too far away from you making it difficult to maintain your meter. In such cases, you can call in reinforcements (allies) to attack the enemy and continue the meter that way, while also opening them up for combo attacks.
