hi-fi rush

Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush isn’t a very long game, with its 12 Chapters (or Tracks) taking about 11 hours or so to finish, depending on the difficulty and your playstyle. Nevertheless, it offers several encounters, boss fights and a great selection of tracks.

Full Walkthrough

Here’s the full walkthrough for the game. Story spoilers follow, so be warned.

Track 1: A Fresh Start

The story begins with Chai gaining his robot arm. This is a tutorial that familiarizes the player with various mechanics and combos. It culminates in a boss fight with QA-1MIL and Chai meeting Peppermint.

Track 2: Power Up

Peppermint needs more information on SPECTRA, so Chai ventures back into Production to sneak into Rekka’s office. It ends in a fight with Rekka and Peppermint learning more about SPECTRA and its inability to interface with users.

Track 3: Trial By (Volcanic) Fire

The next destination is the R&D branch, located below the island and powered with magma. After heaps of platforming and avoiding raining lava, Chai runs into Zanzo, the head of the department.

Track 4: Less Budget, More Problems

Chai gets punched through multiple floors of R&D. To disable the Z-Shielding on Zanzo’s robots and various doors, Chai enlists the help of Macaron, a former Vandelay employee. Eventually, the duo must battle against Zanzo (more accurately, drain his budget). Peppermint discovers that SPECTRA will be used for mind control.

Track 5: Breaking Out!

Captured by Korsica, Vandelay’s head of security, Chai has to break out. It leads to a battle in an elevator as the group battles a flying mini-boss.

Track 6: L.I.F.T Me Up

A relatively short chapter where Chai battles enemies on a tram en route to confronting Korsica.

Track 7: The Climb

Arriving in Security Wing 2, Chai battles his way through Korsica’s security. Eventually, he goes one-on-one with Korsica, which is more of a parry battle. Eventually, the player leaves and must deal with Kale’s CH-ASIR bot on a tram.

Track 8: A History Lesson

With Korsica joining the group, the next target is Mimosa, head of marketing at Vandelay. She’s prepping the Project Armstrong Festival, and thus Chai takes a shortcut through the Vandelay Museum. Along with learning more about Peppermint

Track 9: Take the Stage

Another short chapter focused on the fight against Mimosa. Chai dons a shark costume for tactical sneaking before eventually battling against her.

Track 10: A Masterplan

Chai devises an admittedly ludicrous plan to get shot into Roquefort’s office using a cannon. The plan goes awry as he lands in the cafeteria and must fight through several enemies. Chai eventually fights against Roquefort, who transforms into a giant wolf mech.

Track 11: The Needle Drop

The group goes up against Kale, revealed to be controlling Roxanne, the former president of Vandelay. After escaping, Chai battles Zanzo’s now-complete robot.

Track 12: Curate the Future

Chai finally battles Kale in the epic finale, shutting down SPECTRA, freeing Roxanne and leading to a happy ending.

Hi-Fi Rush is out now on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and with Game Pass. For more details, check out our review here.
