Gears of War 4

The Coalition has offered more information on Gears of War 4 for PC users and much like previous Windows 10 releases of Xbox One titles, it will offer 4K resolution support.

Technical director Mike Rayner told Eurogamer that, “Our focus on PC is to deliver a highly optimized, customizable experience first and foremost.” The Coalition can also take advantage of the disabled vertical sync, which can “offer proper unlocked frame-rate support that gamers expect on day one.”

Along with higher resolution textures, going up to 4K, players will see dynamic resolution support, a benchmarking mode, controller remapping options and 28 different video settings to change (with more potentially coming later). The developer is also allowing the Xbox One version’s dynamic scaling to work on PC to let users balance between performance and visual quality.

“Along with more settings, we’re putting extra time into making it clear what impact a setting will have on GPU/CPU/VRAM so there is a clear correlation between a setting change and its performance impact.

“We will support super-sampling and have come up with a neat system using the dynamic scaling created for Xbox. You can super-sample, let’s say up to 4K, and then enable dynamic scaling and set the maximum amount of scaling you want to allow so you can maintain a very crisp image with scaling kicking in where needed and only to the amount you consider acceptable.”

Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th for Xbox One and Windows 10 with support for Xbox Play Anywhere.
