Fortnite’s Cross Platform Account Merging Feature Delayed to 2019

The feature, originally promised for November, has been delayed due to technical concerns.

When Fortnite was announced to finally be getting full platform capability across the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and smartphones earlier this year, Epic also promised an account merging feature, to let players who made have created multiple accounts across the PS4, and other systems, have consolidated progress and identities.

That feature was originally going to be available later (at the time) this year; however, it seems like fans who did end up making multiple accounts (like me) will have to wait a bit longer to be able to unify them. In a blog post, Epic confirmed the feature will be delayed to next year, citing some technical challenges that they are facing with the implementation of the feature.

“Due to some ongoing technical concerns, we will be delaying the Account Merge feature until early next year,” they said. “We want to make sure that this process is thoroughly tested and working properly before releasing it to those of you currently looking to transfer purchases from other accounts to your primary account. We’ll be sure to update you as we get closer to the release of the feature, which will include a web page on launch to help guide you through the flow!”

At this point, I am sure that most players have simply resigned themselves to having multiple accounts (and probably even chosen to ditch one of them entirely). That said, if for no other reason than that this will let players tie up all loose ends from the dark ages back when cross platform play and progression wasn’t allowed, I do hope Epic manages to roll this out sooner rather than later.

Fortnite is out now on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
