Fortnite has become a global sensation off the back of its battle royale mode, which Epic Games released as a free to play add on to their Early Access co-op survival shooter game after the success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It has become so successful now, in fact, that it has managed to eclipse even PUBG in popularity.
Just how popular is the game? Apartently so popular that it is breaking (and setting) multiple records on the world’s largest video sharing site. YouTube’s Global Head of VR/AR and Gaming Ryan Wyatt revealed that the game has set the record for most videos related to a video game (any video game) uploaded to YouTube ever. That’s not all, either—apparently the Battle Royale tournament on Sunday had 42 million viewers clued in through the course of the various livestreams, with concurrent viewers peaking at a staggering 1.1 million. Yikes.
Fortnite is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4; limited access to a version of Battle Royale is also available on iOS devices, with an Android version planned for later in the year, and the idea of a Switch version having been publicly discussed in the past.
How big is @FortniteGame on YouTube? Fortnite holds the record for the most videos related to a video game uploaded in a single month EVER. Yesterday, the Battle Royale tournament had over 42M live views, and set a record for biggest single live gaming stream @ 1.1M concurrent.
