Fortnite The End

Fortnite remains on top of the mountain when it comes to the video games kingdom. While it’s had its dips here and there, it’s become embedded in the culture with crossovers of various franchises and other pop culture icons. It’s available on just about everything under the sun, including Android. It also seems that in regards to that, the game also will be coming to the OS’s standard store, after a long holdout.

In a statement given to Polygon, Epic Games confirmed they are finally bringing the popular shooter to the Google Play Store. Before this, Epic tried to create their own side launcher with their own app after Google would not step back from their profit percentage cut. It didn’t work out too well, apparently, and the company is relenting. Although, by the tone of the statement, it was done with some very grit teeth. They do say they will continue operating their own app for the future.

“After 18 months of operating Fortnite on Android outside of the Google Play Store, we’ve come to a basic realization:

“Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings, Google public relations characterizing third party software sources as malware, and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to outright block software obtained outside the Google Play store.

“Because of this, we’ve launched Fortnite for Android on the Google Play Store. We’ll continue to operate the Epic Games App and Fortnite outside of Google Play, too.”

It seemed Epic wanted to do something similar to their PC storefront, the Epic Games Store, but it didn’t take. You can download Fortnite on Android now via Google Play Store through here.
