EA has released a new trailer for the upcoming FIFA 23, this time around offering us a deep dive into its ever-popular Ultimate Team game mode. Check out the 8-minute-long trailer below.
Details on FIFA 23‘s FIFA Ultimate Team in the trailer are being provided by FUT 23 producer Azlan Mustapha and FIFA 23 design director Richard Walz.
The first talking point for FIFA 23‘s Ultimate Team mode is the new FUT Moments feature. Essentially a new single-player game mode, FUT Moments will provide players with unique bite-sized challenges to complete. An given was having to score a goal using your goalkeeper without making any passes.
Completing objectives in FUT Moments will reward players with stars depending on the player’s chosen difficulty level. Stars can be redeemed in the Moments Reward Gallery, and can be used to buy new rewards, including new Ultimate Team packs.
FUT Moments’ challenges will be quite varied. According to EA, objectives will change over time; some objectives might only be available to complete in a week, while others might stick around for a month.
Next up for discussion are the changes to how Chemistry works in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team. Chemistry now hopes to be more authentic in terms of player positioning. Positional links are now gone from the game, and players can link from across the entire pitch.
With the changes to Chemistry, EA is hoping to provide more variety in team composition, giving players more freedom in assembling their teams.
Positioning is also seeing some changes, with most players now getting a secondary position they can be slotted into. The secondary position is based on the positions the player plays in reality. Players can have up to 3 secondary positions.
Icons and Heroes will now always be at full Chemistry as long as they’re in the right position. Icons will also now count as two players in terms of building up the nation Chemistry thresholds. Heroes will count as two players for building up the league Chemistry thresholds.
FIFA 23 Ultimate Team will also be getting cross-play for its 1-on-1 modes. The key thing to remember is that the players’ console generations also matter. This means that PS4 players can now play with Xbox One players, and PS5 players can play with Xbox Series X/S players. Cross-play will also be available in the friendlies modes.
Transfer markets will now be global regardless of the player’s platform of choice. And there will now be global leaderboards populated by players of all platforms.
Finally, the trailer talks about stadium customisation options. There will now be new animated pitch trophies, and new roofs.
The trailer caps off by revealing that the world cup will also be represented in FIFA 23‘s Ultimate Team mode.
FIFA 23 is launching on September 30, and will be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia. There will also be a Nintendo Switch version, but that will be another Legacy Edition.
