Dead Island 2 isn’t dead, but it has been delayed again. The team for the game released a statement this morning that confirmed rumors that had been running rampant for the last few weeks. After unveiling the game at last year’s E3 with a long trailer showing a jogger running through an increasingly violent beachside backdrop excitement around the game, has only increased.

As the calendar turned to 2015, that excitement turned to trepidation as people continued to wait for information on just when exactly Dead Island 2 was going to get a release. The team at Yeager Development and Deep Silver even offered up beta codes back in December in order to get feedback and bug reports from the very people who have been waiting for the full game to hit store shelves.

On Thursday morning, that same team released a statement on Twitter that in part said, “We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that.” The team added that it had been aiming for a spring 2015, but it now couldn’t hit that goal and live up to its expectations.

Instead, the game will now be coming out sometime in 2016 for the Xbox One, the PS4 and the PC, and the development team believes Dead Island 2 will be better for the delay.
