We’re going to have to wait for over a year to get out hands on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but to make the wait for the next instalment in the remake trilogy a little easier, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion will be arriving later this year. From what we’ve seen so far, it’s looking like quite the comprehensive remaster, and Square Enix has been revealing new details on its many improvements as well.

On the technical side of things, some more new details have emerged. In an interview with IGN, producer Mariko Sato revealed the extent to which Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is upgrading things. With all of the original game’s assets being replaced by new ones, Sato says Square Enix wants the game to be “visually aligned and up to the standards of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.” It’s also being built on Unreal Engine 4.

Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that the RPG remaster will run at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while on PC, it will target an impressive 120 FPS. Specifics on the game’s Nintendo Switch version remain unknown for now, but Sato says there will be “differences” in that version’s frame rate and resolution- which goes without saying, really. There’s no word on what to expect from the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is due out this Winter for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
