Creative Assembly Says its Unannounced FPS is Focused on “Attention to Detail and Authenticity”

The team behind Alien: Isolation has been working on a new tactical first person shooter – which is likely a multiplayer title – for four years.

Sega’s Creative Assembly is a studio that’s made a name for itself as a connoisseur of strategy games, especially with the bevy of Total War games its put out over the years, but back in 2014, the studio also delivered what’s probably one of the best survival horror games of the previous console generation in Alien: Isolation.

That team has been working on something new for a while now, and we’ve been hearing about a multiplayer first person shooter being in the works on and off over the last few years. And while it doesn’t seem like Sega is quite ready to fully unveil what that game is, its developers have been talking about it.

In an interview published in the most recent issue (issue 373) of Edge magazine (via GamesRadar) Creative Assembly studio director Gareth Edmondson and creative director Alistair Hope talked about the unannounced FPS, which has been in development for four years at this point. Hope touched on the game’s focus on “attention to detail and authenticity”, as well as “understanding the source material”.

What that source material is is, of course, unknown right now, but it seems like whatever the game is is going to be a completely new IP. Chief product officer Rob Bartholomew said: “It’s our new IP, and it’s a world that we’re creating, and of course we’re wringing our hands over it and we really want to get that right. We want to understand what authenticity in a blue ocean or an open sky looks like, when you’ve got a blank page in front of you.”

While concrete details on the game are scant right now, past job ads have indicated that it’s a hero shooter, while a teaser image released by Creative Assembly last year confirmed that it was a sci-fi shooter, and suggested that it might be Sega-themed, with various Sega characters represented.

If Creative Assembly is making a crossover multiplayer hero shooter where players can play as several different Sega characters, that would indeed be worth keeping an eye on- though of course, that’s just speculation at this point. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we know more.
