CD Projekt RED may be done with Geralt of Rivia after The Witcher 3 and its expansions, but The Witcher universe is something they definitely want to return to in the future, as they’ve said multiple times in the past. Now, the Polish studio has signed an agreement with Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher novels, which renews CD Projekt’s rights over the property.

The company announced recently that it had “entered into an agreement which solidifies and reinforces the Company’s relationship with Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski – author of The Witcher saga.” They also stated in their announcement that though the terms of the agreement between the two parties would not be disclosed, the agreement “satisfies and fully clarifies the requirements and expectations of both parties” and “establishes a framework for future cooperation” between them.

That’s significant, because it wasn’t too long ago that Sapkowski and CD Projekt ran into issues regarding the Witcher license, with the two eventually resolving to reach an agreement.

CD Projekt RED have said in the past that they would function as a dual-franchise studio going forward, focusing equally on Cyberpunk and The Witcher. What a new game in the latter series will be is something we can only speculate about- the one thing we know for sure is that CD Projekt RED won’t want to call it The Witcher 4.
