Activision has significantly changed how it looks at and handles Call of Duty, and a lot of that has happened thanks to the massive success the series has enjoyed with free-to-play models. Call of Duty Mobile has contributed to that in a major way, of course, but one of the publisher’s biggest games in some time has been battle royale shooter Call of Duty: Warzone. And it looks like plans are in place to capitalize on its success.

Bloomberg recently published a report in which it stated that according to multiple anonymous sources, Activision is currently working on a full-fledged sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone. As part of an agreement that was signed with Sony prior to Microsoft’s announcement of the Activision Blizzard acquisition, the sequel will allegedly be one of three upcoming Call of Duty games that will release for PlayStation as well as Xbox.

There’s no word on when the game will be out, and the report doesn’t go into detail on what it will entail, but according to known insider Tom Henderson, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is going to be a full sequel with no integration with the first game in any way, and will be released only for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. With the game focused on leveraging more powerful hardware, it will allegedly skip the PS4 and Xbox One.

Of course, a paid annual Call of Duty game is also launching later this year, rumoured to be Modern Warfare sequel developed by Infinity Ward. It will allegedly launch as a cross-gen game.
