Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be launching this year, but that isn’t the only major new entry in the series scheduled for 2022. Infinity Ward and Activision also have Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 planned for a 2022 launch, and though the game is yet to be officially unveiled, Activision has reiterated that it is still very much planned for a launch this year.
While discussing its slate of upcoming releases for the year as part of its quarterly earnings briefing, Activision stated that the free-to-play battle royale follow-up is still slated to release in 2022. It’s joined on calendar by fellow Activision Blizzard titles World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, Overwatch 2, and the aforementioned Modern Warfare 2.
Official details on Warzone 2.0 are scant so far, but multiple leaks have shed light on what the battle royale shooter will bring to the table when it launches this year. In addition to details about its new Strongholds feature and a new Interrogations mechanic, the game’s full map has also been leaked, while a second map is also reportedly in development, with a supposed 2023 launch planned.
Whenever Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches, it’ll be a cross-gen title, contrary to what some previous leaks alleged.
