Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has got off to a stellar start in a commercial sense, having raked in over $1 billion in revenue in 10 days to become the series’ fastest-selling game of all time. But of course, as is always the case with Call of Duty titles, there’s plenty more in the pipeline in terms of new content. Season 1 will be arriving in a few days’ time, and Activision has revealed details on what it’ll bring to the table.

For starters, there’s two new maps, though fans are likely to be disappointed by the selection on offer here. Shoot House and Shipment, both of which are maps from 2019’s Modern Warfare, will be getting remastered launches in Modern Warfare 2. Shoot House will be available at launch, while Shipment will arrive mid-season.

Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 will also add six new Operators over the course of Season 1, many of whom were recently leaked. Zeus, a Nigerian soldier who established a counterterrorism group known as the Thunder Corps, will be available at launch, and will be automatically unlocked if you purchase the Season 1 Battle Pass. Klaus, a member of Denmark’s Elite Special Forces, will arrive mid-season, as will Gaz, Captain Price’s right-hand man, and a character that series fans will be very familiar with.

These three will be joined by three real-life football players being added to the game as playable operators- PSG duo Neymar and Lionel Messi, and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba. Neymar will be added on November 21, Pogba on November 25, and Messi on November 29. A new limited-time mode called CODBall will also arrive later, though details on it are currently scant.

Season 1 will also add a new Spec Ops episode- titled High Ground, it will task players with finding and destroying enemy communication servers to locate and extract three hard drives with vital enemy intel. “One Operator will be tasked with piloting an Attack Chopper to clear out dangerous land mines, while the other works with AI allies as part of a Ground Assault Team to infiltrate the buildings that contain enemy equipment,” Activision explains.

Partway through Season 1, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will also add its (and the series’) first co-op Raid, while MW2 and Warzone 2.0 players can also expect four new weapons- the Victus XMR Sniper Rifle, the M13B Assault Rifle, and the BAS-P SMG, all three of which will be available at launch, and the Chimera Assault Rifle, which will arrive mid-season. Of these four, the sniper rifle and SMG will be automatically unlocked if you have the Battle Pass.

Meanwhile, Season 1 will also introduce a new Prestige system to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0which will allow you to earn a persistent Prestige rank across seasons after leveling up past Rank 55 rather than having your rank set at the beginning of every season. There will be five Prestige Ranks in Season 1 in total, unlocked at Rank 56, Rank 100, Rank 150, Rank 200, and Rank 250, the level cap for the season. Once Season 1 ends, players will be able to continue leveling up to higher Ranks. Each Rank will grant an Emblem, additional rewards, and a set of challenges.

Meanwhile, Activision has also confirmed that Season 1 will also add a special CDL Moshpit Playlist to prepare for the introduction of Ranked Play in 2023, courtesy of Treyarch. “This Playlist will use the League’s standard rules, restrictions, and map rotation across all three of its official game modes: Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control,” the publisher writes.

Another big headlining addition to both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 with Season 1 will be the arrival of a new Battle Pass system. Read more on that through here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Season 1 will be kicking off on November 16, coinciding with the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 on the same platforms. Activision recently revealed a host of new details on the battle royale shooter- read more on that through here.

It’s also been confirmed that the original Warzone will going temporarily offline before being relaunched as Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera.
