Apex Legends exploded in popularity immediately upon release, garnering 50 million players in less than a month for what is reportedly the best launch for a free-to-play game to date. Its popularity had an impact on Fortnite as well, Epic Games’ battle royale title whose dominance over the market began to wane and fade as a result.

However, it seems like Respawn Entertainment’s shooter is beginning to lose steam already. As per a new StreamElements report (via VGR), Apex Legends has seen a significant drop in viewership on Twitch of late. As opposed to the incredible peak of 40 million hours of watch time every week the game garnered in February, March saw that figure dropping down to 10 million hours per week, while the month also saw only two of the top ten streamers streaming the game on a regular basis.

Fortnite, meanwhile, has held steady as ever, constantly remaining in and around the 20 million hours per week mark- which means Epic Games’ battle royale title has retaken its throne after a brief period of upheaval.

Respawn Entertainment have been supporting Apex Legends with new content and other ways to drive user engagement. Season one of the game recently launched with a battle pass, while another new character is also supposedly scheduled to be added to the game soon as well. The developer – as well as EA – will be hoping it’s enough to see those Twitch numbers rise again.
