Destiny 2: Lightfall has seen a massive spike in players. According to Steam, the game hit a new all-time high in its concurrent player count today with the launch of the Lightfall expansion, with 316,750 concurrent players. The game currently sits at number 2 of the most played games on Steam, with 311,165 players at the time of publishing.
For context, the previous all-time high, as reported by SteamDB, sat at around 128,000 concurrent players. It is also worth noting that these numbers only take into account the Steam version of the game. The PlayStation and Xbox playerbase for Destiny 2 is not included in these numbers, so the actual number of concurrent players is quite likely much higher.
Destiny 2: Lightfall was released yesterday. Alongside bringing a host of new content, the expansion also brings with it the Strand subclass for all three classes. Bungie has also kicked off Lightfall‘s first season, dubbed Season of Defiance, with a new trailer.
Destiny 2‘s base game is available as a free-to-play title on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. To play Lightfall, players will have to purchase the expansion on their platform of choice.
