Rockstar confirmed a while back that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development, but in the absence of a formal unveiling for the game, details on the game have been largely nonexistent. Of course, many have emerged courtesy of leaks, including last year’s massive leak that showed early development footage, but when can we expect to see the game in an official capacity?
As per Tez2, a prominent Rockstar insider who has accurately leaked information on the game in the past, that will be happening this year. In a post on the GTA Forums, the insider said that Grand Theft Auto 6’s announcement is “a given this year”, with the game targeting a Holiday 2024 launch, though that could slip into 2025.
“Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024,” the insider wrote. “Which has been pushed back multiple times the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well.”
Interestingly, the insider also says Rockstar has been cutting content out of the game in order to ensure that it doesn’t get delayed much further, and that that content is now being planned to be added to the game as post-launch DLC.
“I personally see an announcement as a given this year,” Tez2 wrote. “I don’t think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be sustainable for management than delaying further.”
Past reports have also claimed that unlike Grand Theft Auto 5, its successor will be getting single player DLC, based on what Rockstar has planned right now.
According to leaks, GTA 6 will be set in a modern-day Vice City and will have two protagonists, one of whom will be a woman. Reports have claimed that Rockstar has internally shelved other projects – including remasters of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 – in order to focus on the highly anticipated sequel’s development.
