Blizzard Entertainment’s collaboration event between Overwatch 2 and One-Punch Man starts on March 7th. The trailer premieres on the same day at 11 AM PT, likely showcasing the various revealed cosmetics like Doomfist’s Saitama, Soldier 76’s Mumen Rider and Kiriko’s Terrible Tornado. One more hero joins the list – Genji as Genos.
In addition to the Legendary skin, which is purchasable with Overwatch Coins, a name card for Genos Genji will also be available. Speaking to PlayStation Blog, associate director Aimee Dennet and art director Dion Rogers revealed their thoughts behind having Genji cosplaying as Saitama’s protege.
“The similarities between Genos’s and Genji’s backstories were certainly an inspiration. They are both humans who were pushed to the brink of death, only to be rescued and transformed into cyborgs by doctors from their respective universes,” said Aimee. So if you’re wondering why Genji isn’t cosplaying as Speed-o’-Sound Sonic, despite also being a ninja, that’s why.
“We also liked that both Genji and Genos have a strong relationship with their mentors. In fact, there was an idea that Zenyatta would make for an excellent Saitama given this relationship (he’s also bald!), but Doomfist was always the clear choice for us.”
The Overwatch 2 x One-Punch Man collab is available until April 6th for all platforms. Though it’s the middle of the season, whether a new balance patch will also go live or not remains unknown. Stay tuned for more details and patch notes in the meantime.
