Sons of the Forest Developer has “Big Plans” for Kelvin and Virginia; Dedicated Servers Coming

Endnight Games will also add more lore and story pickups, new areas and additional cutscenes to further flesh out the story later.

Endnight Games’ Sons of the Forest launched roughly two weeks ago into Steam Early Access and is already a monstrous hit. It sold over two million copies in its first 24 hours and has an all-time peak concurrent player count of 414,257, according to SteamDB. Of course, the journey doesn’t stop here, as the development team has more updates planned.

Some of those center around Kelvin and Virginia, the new AI companions. In a new post-launch Q&A video, the development team addressed poor scaling of both into the late game and whether there would be more commands. “We have big plans to keep adding tasks Kelvin can complete. Some ideas in progress are having him help construct a wall around your base, or fortify/repair the base when needed.

“For Virginia, we plan to add more to her A.I., particularly giving her more bravery if she has a weapon, and also depending on how many mutants/cannibals she has killed.” Additional companions haven’t been confirmed.

There will be more lore and story pickups, additional cutscenes and areas to flesh out the story later. Dedicated servers are also being worked on “in the background,” but an exact release date isn’t confirmed. As for issues with griefing, with players killing companions and other players, the team is looking into ways to “limit griefing risks and expand tools for hosts.”

Stay tuned for further updates, and in the meantime, check out our review for Sons of the Forest here.
