Development

Lego Marvel Super Heroes is being developed by the greatly revered games developer TT Games. TT Games has a long running track of record breaking success with the Lego series of games. In keeping with the Lego games tradition, Lego Marvel Super Heroes shares a lot of similarities with its predecessors. This means a return to the formula that made the series popular. Players will play the game in a traditional 3rd person, mostly fixed camera perspective. Progressing through the various stages and levels in the game will be accomplished by using the skills and abilities of the Marvel Universes’ many unique and varied Super Heroes.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes will challenge the player (or players) through the use of puzzles, some will require you to locate and restore certain Lego blocks to their respective place of origin and can even make use of a basic physics engine, using weights to raise platforms on a fulcrum lever to raise another player or NPC (non-player character) to a previously unexplored region of the games environment.

TT Games is the only publisher to focus on designing video games for the younger audience and their family.  Because of this, the Lego series of games make use child friendly slapstick humour, applying this to Lego Marvel Super Heroes will result in the Hulk smashing enemies into small piles of Lego and similar child friendly moments.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Lego Marvel Super Heroes closely resembles that of previous Lego games. It perhaps shares gameplay elements that most closely resemble those found in Lego Star Wars, any player that can use powers like Magnetism, or Telekinesis will share a striking resemblance to the Jedi and Sith from the Lego Star Wars titles.

The player will have access to a massive roster of playable characters, ranging from the quick and nimble Spiderman to the lithe and muscle bound Wolverine. As per usual, the players ‘mini figure’ will be able to draw upon various super powers and talents in order to move forward in the game.

The Hulk can smash enemies to pieces and throw heavy pieces of debris as well as shrink down to his normal self. Players will control Bruce Banner and use his scientific skills to use various computers strewn about the game. Iron Man can zip about the game world on his repulsor boosters and fire energy blasts from his hand repulsors, this is basically a one way push of magnetic force that negates the 3rd law of motion, essentially acting like a Lego Beam weapon found in the Lego Star Wars games.

Spiderman can swing on webs and make use of his Spider Sense, but whether or not this is to find items in the environment or as a combat aid is unclear at the moment.

The game is going to be primarily set in a “Lego-ized” version of New York City, although other locations such as Asgard will be making an appearance according to the games director Arthur Parsons and the producer Phil Ring. The buildings in New York City can be explored and will serve as a hub for the player to access various missions and quests. All of this will be narrated by one of Marvels most popular characters, The Merc With A Mouth, Deadpool, the fan favourite anti-hero.

Story

The central plot of Lego Marvel Super Heroes revolves around the arrival of the Silver Surfer. The Silver Surfer is separated from his board and falls to the earth. This causes his Surfboard to shatter into several pieces called the “Cosmic Bricks”, they too plummet to Earth. Fantastic Four nemesis Doctor Doom manages to get his hands on these “Cosmic Bricks” and alongside his newly formed Super Villain cadre he begins construction on the “Doom Ray of Doom.”

Not long after however the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D) Director, Nick Fury puts out a call for help to the Super Heroes and its Allies to help retrieve the Cosmic Bricks before other villainous forces, such as Loki of Asgard or Magneto get their hands on them and commit unspeakable crimes against humanity.
