However, those familiar with the Remedy Connected Universe will find plenty of "connections, pieces of lore, and familiar characters".

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 is going to launch well over a decade on from the launch of its predecessor, while it’s also going to be part of Remedy Entertainment’s shared universe of games, dubbed the Remedy Connected Universe, which is an umbrella that Control and its DLCs also currently fall under. But newcomers who haven’t played the original Alan Wake or Control and its expansions need not worry about having to do required reading before the upcoming survival horror game launches.

Speaking in a recent interview with GamesRadar, creative director Sam Lake explained that while Alan Wake 2 feature plenty of connections to the aforementioned games for fans of the developer’s shared universe to discover, those who’re entering with little to no familiarity of Remedy’s past games will still find it a welcoming experience.

“When we were creating the concept for Alan Wake 2, it was very much on our mind that we wanted to create an experience that was welcoming to all – both new players who may not be familiar with Alan Wake or the Remedy Connected Universe and our fans, who have been on the journey with us and enjoyed earlier Remedy games,” he said. “Of course, if you have played games in the Alan Wake franchise, Control, and the Control: AWE DLC – there will be many connections, pieces of lore, and familiar characters for you to discover.”

As for when Alan Wake 2 launches, while Remedy Entertainment insists that the game – which is supposedly the studio’s most ambitious project to date – is on track to launch this year, it doesn’t yet have a specific release date. Whenever it launches, it will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
