The curious case of Advance Wars: 1+2 Re-Boot Camp gets curiouser and curiouser. Announced at E3 last year, the remakes were met with widespread excitement upon their reveal, given how long the fan-favourite franchise had remained dormant. As time has gone on, however, that excitement has been forced to recede into the background.
The game has been delayed numerous times, with its most recent postponement pushing it back to an undetermined date in 2023. Reports have suggested that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been a major factor in these delays, thanks not only to the game’s central theme, but also the fact that one of the two fictional nations in the game is based on Russia.
With Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp not having made an appearance in the recent Nintendo Direct either, what does that mean for when (or if) it will launch? Well, at the very least, it’s hasn’t been cancelled.
Axios’ Stephen Totilo recently took to Twitter and said that when asked if the remakes had been cancelled, Nintendo told him that they were very much still on the docket, though the release had been delayed. Delayed to when exactly? On that front, there’s still no clarity.
“We will announce the new date once it has been determined,” Nintendo says.
Hopefully it won’t be too long before that happens, but you never know with Nintendo. Either way, we’ll keep an eye out for more details, so stay tuned for further updates.
I asked Nintendo if Advance Wars 1 + 2 has been cancelled, given the lack of news about it since it was delayed due to the invasion of Ukraine.
Nintendo rep's reply: "The release has been delayed. We will announce the new date once it has been determined."
